The blazing i5-3210m processor barely even NEEDS to reach its max clock speed of 2500mhz. a hefty serving of ram compliments both the processor and the surprisingly well performing integrated Intel 4000 processor. Running several instals at once while browsing the web and playing Minecraft all at the same time, seamlessly! The keyboard (with number pad!) is magnificently lit; and the trackpad.. well that is ok too I guess. The trackpad sports cool features such as pinching to zoom, and a nifty scrolling feature which you draw a circle to scroll up or down a page! but with all that said, the trackpad is lacking dedicated clicking buttons, which could be a turn-off for some people. The Sony Vaio also sports a relatively short battery life, but hey! all that processing power doesnt come from your keystrokes!

• The retina display : This screen has to be seen to be believed. The resolution and pixel density are simply unreal. Colors and viewing angles are fantastic. Beware - once you use this display, everything else will seem inadequate.
• Flash storage : Flash storage means there is no physical spinning hard drive. Think of an extremely large thumb drive. What does this mean for performance? Blazingly fast boot up times, faster application opening, and faster performance all around. Not to mention, flash storage is completely silent.
• Performance : Even the lowest level configuration MacBook Pro has insane performance. At least 8 gigabytes of RAM, the latest Intel quad-core processors, and flash storage all equate to terrific performance for you. You simply haven't experienced computing until you've tried this laptop.
• Software : OSX is rock solid, very smooth, and intuitive. I find my productivity increased substantially in comparison to a Windows machine. If you prefer Windows, you are free to install a copy using the software's built in "Boot Camp". I haven't personally used this feature, but there are likely several demonstrations on the web, and it is likely to run very well considering the laptop's stellar internals. The upcoming Mountain Lion (free with a purchase of this machine) should only improve on an already great experience.
• Design : This computer is unbelievably thin. It manages to near the portability of an Ultrabook while making no compromises for performance.
• Much-needed improvements : There are a few smaller, but welcome, additions to this model over previous generations. USB 3.0 ports will allow for faster data transfers - even on the USB 2.0 products you already own. An HDMI out port will allow for you to display your screen on your HDTV, and is much simpler than the dizzying array of dongles required on the previous MacBook Pro. The fans on the system are very quiet,

• The price : This is the biggest one, and needs to be said. This is NOT a budget computer. However, you get what you pay for, and it's difficult to consider this laptop to be over priced when looking at what is included, and at comparable Windows machines.
• 2. Graphics card :The graphics card included on all models is lackluster. Some have claimed to run into lag in basic operations, but I haven't noticed any to speak of, and it is likely you won't either. If you are unsure, try the product in your local electronics store to decide for yourself. You shouldn't expect to run the latest releases, such as Battlefield 3, on max settings, but it will likely suffice for casual games and most hardcore games on lower settings. Tests have been done running Diablo III at reasonable settings with fairly good results on this computer. Still, this is not a gaming machine, and due to the graphics performance and lack of quality titles on Mac, you should look elsewhere if you are in the market for such a laptop.
• Heat issues : Due to the thinness of the computer and Apple's choice of metal in the design, the computer will likely get hot when running more demanding tasks. This is not to say it will overheat easily, but you will be able to tell when your MacBook is really working.

In conclusion, the Cons I've presented are relatively minor issues. If you aren't a huge PC gamer, and you have the money, I cannot recommend this laptop highly enough. I've simply loved every minute I spent using it. It's difficult to avoid hyperbole when describing this machine, but I contest it's the best laptop by any company to date.

Overall, this is a fantastic computer, but it's not for everyone. This system fills a gap in the Mac lineup for users who work above the current iMac capabilities, or those who need portability with desktop power. Those who don't require this performance might want to look at other Macs, but if you run graphic-intense programs, do video editing, watch a lot of media via your computer, Apple has really delivered.

In many ways, this system feels like a distinct footnote in the evolution of Apple products, leading to a point where unbelievably thin and light laptops rival desktops in performance and price. Apple is certainly hopeful that this will bring new customers their way, as the iPad has, although it remains to be seen whether this new system will attract new Mac users, or simply encourage existing customers to move over from their iMacs and Mac Pros. Regardless, Cupertino has put together a heck of a machine, once again.

Great Apple MacBook Air MC968LL/A 11.6-Inch Laptop Blazing speed, Amazing portability

The battery life only lasts like, 3-4 hours, at the most, not 5 as Apple claims. Also, it tends to overheat quite frequently, so I would suggest a cooling fan or pad. Not a heavy maintenance computer, but I would recommend a case or sleeve and DEFINITELY a screen protector. The Mac still has some permanent bubbles on its screen from delivery and packaging, I guess. Microsoft Office may come in handy, because TextEdit isn't always the best for formal projects. Also, some sort of USB Hub and SD card reader is highly advised because this version of the Macbook Air is the smallest and does not have an SD card slot on any of its sides. It also only has 2 USB slots, so if external storage is a top priority for you, as I suggested, a small hub would be helpful. I love the backlit keyboard, but it can tend to get slightly dirty. To prevent that, I guess a keyboard cover is something to go for.

1. Extremely fast CPU - The MBA 11" comes with a Sandy Bridge 1.6 gHz dual-core Core i5 CPU (or a 1.8 gHz dual-core i7 directly from Apple). Despite rumors to the contrary, the Turbo Boost and hyper threading capabilities were NOT turned off in the Core i5 CPUs. Geekbench benchmarks show extraordinary speed increases. The previous generation MBA 11" 1.4 gHz Core 2 Duo produced 2024 on Geekbench, while the 2011 MBA 11" now produced 5040 for a 149% increase. This speed even rivals the 2010 MacBook Pro 17" which scored 5423! The 2011 MacBook Air 13" uses a slightly faster 1.7 gHz dual core i5 which scored 5860.)
2. Extraordinarily small! The MBA 11" measures 11.8 x 7.56 x 0.68 inches, while the MBA 13" is 12.8 x 8.94 x 0.68 inches. This means that the 11" is "only" 1 inch shorter and "only" 1.3 inches less deep, but in reality, when you hold up both machines, the MBA 11" feels like a completely different machine. My wife uses a 2011 MacBook Pro 13" which has a similar footprint to the MBA 13". The MacBook Air 13" still felt too much like a laptop, albeit an extraordinarily thin and light one.
3. Extraordinarily light! The MBA 11" weighs 2.38 pounds (while the MBA 13" weighs 2.96 pounds and an iPad 2 weighs 1.35 pounds I actually sometimes hold the MBA like an iPad while reading in bed because it's so light. If you are seeking just a light, portable laptop, then the weight of the MBA 11" or 13" would be great, but if you (like me) are seeking a truly mobile device, then even fractions of a pound matter. The MBA 11" weighs less and is consequently the better choice, but as amazingly light as it is, even lighter would be better. Its doubtful that a mobile device will ever exist that would be considered too light.
4. High-speed Thunderbolt (i.e. Lightpeak) port offering bidirectional 10 gigabits/s throughput - Thunderbolt technology is far more revolutionary than USB 3.0 or eSATA. Thunderbolt is NOT limited to the use of a storage device. An external LCD can be attached. Although I use the MBA 11" as my mobile device, it may be acceptable as a primary computer if one attaches an external LCD display and a high-speed Thunderbolt drive. Supposedly an external Thunderbolt hard drive would be nearly as fast as an internal hard drive.
5. Everything is solid state! This MBA feels more like a true "mobile" device since it is fully solid state with its solid state drive. I am far less worried about damaging this versus other laptops I've owned in the past.
6. Extremely fast cold starts and shutdowns thanks to the solid state drive and OS X.
7. Great, full-size keyboard AND keyboard backlighting is back again! While this may seem like a minor point, the previous generation Core 2 Duo Airs did not have the backlighting.
8. The battery life between the 11" and the 13" was only found to be 36 minutes shorter for the 11" (and NOT the 2 hours claimed by Apple) for light usage by Anandtech [...]. The battery life is Apple (conservatively) rated at 5 hours (compared to 7 hours for the MBA 13" and also 7 hours for my MBP 17"). Apple's battery life ratings have become much more stringent in the past few years are much closer to real world usage. I am indeed able to use my 11" for about 6 hours with light usage, which is much better than Apple's claimed 5 hours.
9. Tremendous, typical Apple build quality. The MBA feels like a piece of solid precision crafted machinery.
10. Same great glass trackpad with even more gestures in OS X Lion to be used.
11. 11. Comes with the new Mac OS X Lion (which I won't discuss, but it will allow for apps to use a full-screen mode which is of benefit to MBA 11" owners)
12. Extraordinary aesthetics - I can't express adequately in words how beautiful this machine looks.

Apple MacBook Air MC968LL/A Cons

1. Although I have a Samsung LCD, the vertical and horizontal viewing angles are not nearly as good as on my 2011 MBP 17". It's still more than acceptable, but it's something that MacBook Pro owners will probably notice.
2. Some MBAs come with a Toshiba solid-state drive which is not necessarily a con, but this may bother some users. In real world usage, I have read that one cannot detect any speed differences, but if you like to run benchmarks, then the Toshiba drives in the 128 GB size seem to be slower than the Samsung 128 GB drives in certain benchmarks.
3. MBAs come with either a Samsung or LG LCD panel. It's not clear what the differences are between them. There is pure speculation and mostly fear that one panel is superior to the other, but I have seen comparison photos of both types of displays, and the only difference I can notice is an extremely slightly warmer look to the LG panel. BUT this was on computers that did not have the screens color calibrated. In any case, I can state clearly that my 2011 MacBook Pro 17" display is vastly superior in color and viewing angles, but they are completely different machines.
4. There is no SecureDigital memory card slot on the 11" MBA, although there is one in the larger 13" size. I can't believe I got another Mac laptop WITHOUT a SD slot! My 17" MBP doesn't have one either while the smaller MBPs do! And now, the smaller MBA doesn't have one while the larger one does! I wonder if I'll ever get a Mac with an SD card slot!)

Tips For You

1. Believe it or not (do a Google search) but if you use Adobe's Flash, your laptop battery life will most likely be significantly shorter. Some reports show that having Adobe flash turned off allows for 2 hours of additional battery life.
2. I purchased the MBA 11" with standard 1.6 gHz Core i5 and am happy with this. If you get the built to order ones from Apple, you can upgrade your 11" to include the same 1.8 gHz Core i7 that's also available as an upgrade on the MBA 13". Anandtech has found that the 1.8 gHz Core i7 upgrade produces significantly faster benchmarks >20% speed difference without a shorter battery life. The i7 upgrade did produce significantly more heat, however.
3. If you do not need a truly mobile laptop, then the MBA 13" is probably better for most people's needs as a standard conventional laptop (albeit very light, thin, and also beautiful).
4. If you absolutely must have USB 3.0, and you can wait, then you should know that Intel's next future CPU/chipset for Ivy Bridge will allow for native USB 3.0 support.

This laptop is slim and lightweight. It has no additional number keypad, and there is no backlight on the keys. The mouse touchpad is easy to use once you get the hang of scrolling up and down pages.

Performance to cost ratio? For the money, you get a lot of performance, more processing power than most people need for average tasks. I really have to say that the price is excellent for the performance offered. Compared to comparable offerings, you really would be hard pressed to find anything better for the price, and spending a couple hundred more isn't really going to net the average user a meaningful performance increase outside of mostly useless benchmark numbers. Overall the HP ENVY Sleekbook is a no-brainer for someone looking for a budget-friendly go anywhere lightweight/thin notebook computer.

HP ENVY 6-1010us Sleekbook 15.6-Inch Laptop

The Envy also has some great features for pictures. It uses Youcam webcam software and it has a lot of fun options for pictures. My kids have been having a lot of fun using it. There are enough fun things on Youcam to keep them amused for long periods of time, even in low light. When I downloaded pictures from my SD card, the computer separated the pictures by date so I could make different albums vs. lumping them altogether and the software also uses face recognition which is a really cool feature.

The Envy surfs the internet with good speed even while playing music and having multiple windows open. The Beats audio is a really nice feature and the sleekbook comes with the standard jack for headphones. Beats audio adds a little extra touch and makes this laptop a little more jazzy and appealing, especially to kids.

The keyboard is also great. This version doesn't have a backlight for night use, but the keyboard is easy to use with no major clicking noise. It's quiet and comfortable. The trackpad responds great and has a pretty wide pad for navigation, at times it does take more than one click to bring something up, but this is nothing major.

Many of the games on the Envy are linked to an external gaming company, Wild Tangent and they offer free playtime with options to buy the games. The graphics and speed of the games has been really good. I haven't loaded anything like the Sims on this sleekbook as I had trouble with The Sims on my Dell, so I don't know if I will ever do that, but for seek and find games, card games and the like, this works great. I am not sure I would load it up with a lot of high graphic games as it's not really a gaming laptop but a few games would probably work just fine, just not something huge, it would probably work, but slow the unit down.

The Envy also comes with a start up Office version with options to buy the full version. I find that I usually only use Word so this is just fine for me, but for those who rely on Power Point and other programs, an upgrade is easily available, there are also easy options to use to upgrade to any Windows program or add-on you'd like to have. Instant downloads make this super easy, and the computer offers different things to you as you work. The unit is quite intuitive without being annoying.

All in all, I really like this sleekbook laptop. It's been super reliable so far with no issues. It's basic which would make it wonderful for students to do homework and surf the internet as well as for seniors who don't need a lot of bells or whistles and hot graphics on their games. This is a nice basic notebook that is super easy to use with great sound and graphics as long as you don't over load it. It's stylish and is black with a red bottom. The Envy 6 is very thin and super lightweight for easy transport. Even business people should find that this is a great notebook for travel and home use. For a low cost laptop, it's great. I paid quite a bit for my Dell and this hp seems to do everything it did without the issues I've had with it and Windows Vista. For an inexpensive laptop, I would recommend this unit for students, seniors, travellers or people who don't need a ton of extra features. It's simple and works really well without over heating or feeling cumbersome. I've had no problems with it for what I use it for which is pictures, music, e mail, typing documents, playing games and accessing the internet. Norton is included free for one month for virus prevention. For a less expensive unit, it still feels like a quality laptop, it's not made cheaply, the Envy is actually very pretty and isn't thrown together where you feel like if the wind blew something will fall off or break. The 15 inch screen is large enough for a quality picture and the graphics are really good.

Netflix also works very well streaming movies on this notebook. The picture is great and Beats provides exceptional sound-no problems whatsoever.

This is a nice solid notebook that is easy to use and looks great. I am growing fonder by the day. If I run across any problems I will be sure to update, but so far, I am very happy with the overall performance of the Envy 6-1010.
